Last Saturday we had an intense thunderstorm which produced a huge amount of rain and caused the two rivers that run through the town to rise and overtop their banks. Large amounts of wood and other debris were caught in the flow and a lot of damage was done to the bridges. Our telephone lines were run along some of those bridges they were swept away as well. So we were without phones (and internet!) from Sunday until Thursday. That was a long time.
We still had cable so I was able to watch the debate on Wednesday night (go Obama!). During the vice presidential debate our cable was out because they were repaving the street in front of our apartment and someone had broken something, so I watched a jerky version of it online (our connection is almost fast enough for video, but not quite). So goes life in Loja.
While our internet was down I had more time on my hands than usual (imagine that) and I wrote the following two blog entries. I also have some photos which I will publish on our web album and send out to everyone.
